About the exams
What 13+ maths looks like.
01
Common Entrance levels 1 to 3
ISEB Common Entrance maths is set at three levels. Level 3 is the standard target for academic schools; the best schools also expect a strong scholarship paper alongside it.
02
Scholarship papers
Schools like Eton, Winchester, Harrow, and Westminster set their own maths scholarship papers, typically two papers harder than Common Entrance Level 3.
03
Year 8 timing
Most students sit the 13+ in the spring of Year 8. Serious preparation usually starts in Year 7, with scholarship candidates beginning sooner.
How we work
Our approach.
01
Common Entrance or scholarship
We start by clarifying which exam the student is sitting and at what level, then plan around that target. Scholarship preparation looks very different to Level 2 Common Entrance.
02
Past papers, properly used
Both Common Entrance and the named scholarship papers have decades of archived material. We curate it by topic and difficulty rather than working through year by year.
03
Working under exam conditions
We sit timed papers under the same conditions as the exam, including the level of working schools expect to see. Marks are often lost on presentation, not understanding.
